About the Role

Coram Voice are looking for volunteers aged 18+ for our Independent Visitors project in Worcestershire.

Children in care often do not have access to consistent, healthy relationships, with adults who are not paid to be there. An opportunity to talk to someone older, who is not a social worker or part of children’s services, is crucial for their development.

Independent Visitors are volunteers who befriend and spend time with a child or young person within Local Authority care. Our volunteers enjoy the challenge of building a lasting friendship and the children benefit greatly from a consistent, fun relationship with someone outside the care system.

We are looking for people who are prepared to give up a small amount of time each month, which can be very flexible, to volunteer to talk and do things such as play football or computer games, go to the cinema, for a cup of coffee, swimming, walks or visiting local events etc.

This is a long-term, one to one commitment. Full training and on-going support will be given, and out of pocket expenses paid for mileage and activities.

Skills and Qualifications

Someone able to commit on a long term basis. Someone who enjoys spending time with young people. Patient reliable, good communication and listening.

About the Organisation

To ensure that young people living in care have   their voice heard and give support to ensure that they are aware of their   rights.

We also provide an Independent Visitor service, Independent Visitors are volunteers who befriend   and spend time with a child or young person within Local Authority care. Our   volunteers enjoy the challenge of building a lasting friendship and the   children benefit greatly from a consistent, fun relationship with someone   outside the care system.

The Independent Visitors service matches volunteers with a young person in care. They spend time together once   a month.  Many looked after children would like to have an   adult in their lives who is not paid to be there like their social worker or   foster carer and that’s where an Independent Visitor can help.

They provide a good, stable, adult role model for the young person.
