About the Role

Onside provide various Advocacy Services one of these services is the Independent Health Complaints Advocacy (IHCA) this is a service to support people who want to complain about their NHS care or treatment. This is a confidential service independent of the NHS. The voluntary role is to provide the service user with information, advice and guidance to enable them to make their complaint. You might provide additional support in writing letters, making phone calls, helping prepare for meetings and attend them if necessary.

An advocate does not provide legal or specialist advice, but helps to ensure that the individual:

• Has support to consider options, make decisions and act on information and advice

• Is afforded fair and equal treatment

• Has their voice and views heard

Skills and Qualifications

You will need to have the following skills and qualities:

· Good communication and interpersonal skills

· Empathetic

· You will have, or be willing to learn, basic computer literacy skills in order to log your contact / work on our database system

Organised and resourceful
